Old Clocks and Watches

In Bob Potvin’s quest for American antiquity comes his deep interests in antique clocks and watches which started in 1954 as a boy of 12. It was then he traded his first Hampden men’s pocket watch and Regulator from his grandfather Poulin’s estate.

Bob regularly visited the local clock repair shop in North Brookfield and became familiar with the workings of clocks and watches. His interest and knowledge grew further while attending estate auctions of auctioneer Colby Johnson and others. This is how Bob began his love affair with old clocks and watches.

The love affair continued as he founded his own antique enterprise in 1978 after spending ten years with Aetna insurance company as a casualty claim representative. As the years continued, estate auctioneer Bob Potvin sold many varieties of American shelf and tall clocks at auction. In 1994, Bob staged an immense clock and watch auction at the Sturbridge Host Hotel and Conference Center. This one collection featured hundreds of clocks and fetched over $100,000! Four years later Bob staged a similar clock auction with similar results.

Pocket watches have numbered in the hundreds as Bob deals in unwanted gold jewelry. He has even sold two Patek Philippe watches – a pocket watch and a wristwatch.

Bob has published several articles in the National Watch and Clock Collectors Journal.
